I am so thrilled to announce that I have just signed up with LinkShare Referral Program. The first affiliate that I have been approved for is Hay House. So exciting - the first of many I'm sure as I have so many ideas to explore online.
The real reason I'm writing is because Louise L. Hay will be on Oprah tomorrow - Friday June 27th talking about her new movie 'You Can Heal Your Life'.
I just watched the movie trailer - This is a must see. Wow!

Diana
I recently watched ‘The Business of Being Born’. I knew it was going to be one of those movies that would make me angry & make me think. I was right. I am in my mid forties & I have no children. I am not really aware of the details of my sister-in-laws pregnancies nor my friends pregnancies. I tell you this to let you know this is a new subject for me. I had no idea what goes on in the delivery room. The movie trailer speaks for itself & I couldn’t do it better. You can find it at http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/
Synopsis from the Business of Being Born website
“Birth is a miracle, a rite of passage, a natural part of life. But birth is also big business.
Compelled to explore the subject after the delivery of her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to question the way American women have babies.
The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the film, the journey becomes even more personal.
Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?”
Only changing topic slightly, I was in Canada recently visiting my family. My dad was in the hospital. A few of his comments are making more sense to me now that I have seen ‘The Business of Being Born’. Obviously we are talking about different medical issues here but I was made aware of things about the medical system.
I’m going to keep the details of my father’s health private. But I’m really proud of my dad for questioning the cocktail of pills that were given to him daily. I think my dad is right to question every medication that enters his body & make an informed decision whether he wants to take them or not.
Dad also commented that the hospital is set up for the convenience of the medical personnel & not the patient. I saw a few things that made me agree with that.
I have a lot more comments on this based on my dad’s stay in the hospital & a girlfriend’s recent hospital adventure but I don’t want to be a complainer I want to be an encourager. So I give you an excerpt from ‘Take Charge of Your Body’ by Dr. Carolyn DeMarco http://www.drdemarco.com/wwp/demarc01.htm
I’m quoting it exactly from the book although a good portion if it could apply to men as well.
A Women’s Health Bill Of Rights And Responsibilities
1. I have a right to be treated as an equal human being.
2. I have a right to be listened to and have my problems taken seriously.
3. I have a right to an explanation that I can understand in my native language (using a translator if necessary) on any questions concerning my health care.
4. I have a right to know the choices I face in getting treated for any health problem, and to have the possible side effects of any drugs or surgical treatments clearly explained.
5. I have a right to choose the types of treatment I prefer from among the options offered to me by my doctor.
6. I have a right for normal events in my life, such as pregnancy and menopause, not to be treated as diseases requiring treatment.
7. I have a right to choose natural therapies and not be ridiculed for doing so.
8. I have a right to request a second opinion on any major surgery or health decision.
9. I have a right to refuse any drug or surgical treatment.
10. I have a responsibility to become knowledgeable about my body and how it works.
11. I have a responsibility to learn as much as possible about my health problems so I can make informed choices.
12. I have a responsibility to look after my diet, reduce stress, exercise and relax on a regular basis.
13. I have the responsibility to avoid pressuring my doctor into giving me drugs when I don’t need them.
14. I have a responsibility to prepare my questions for my doctor beforehand and schedule adequate appointment time to discuss them.
15. I am ultimately responsible to my own healthcare, using my doctor as a resource rather than an authority.
# 15 about sums it up for me. We are each responsible for our own health. Be wise in your choices. Be well.

I’ve just returned from a trip home to Canada to visit my family. It’s been a long time & it was good to see everyone. It was also good to do hometown things like watch fireworks & a parade for Victoria Day.
My return trip was interesting. I was supposed to fly back on Wednesday morning but the flight was cancelled because a bird had flown into the engine so the plane was sidelined for maintenance concerns. The next flight out was 12 hours later. So what am I going to do in Detroit airport for 12 hours? I made a conscious choice to not be frustrated. I decided to think about who I could bless & how I could be blessed by this time. If there is a spiritual side to this – why had God put me here? What was I to do?
I spent a lot of time reading ‘Inspiration’ by Wayne Dyer http://www.hayhouse.com/details.php?id=3164
Listening to ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne http://www.thesecret.tv/
Meditating with paraliminals from Paul Scheele http://www.learningstrategies.com/Paraliminal/Home.asp
It was wonderful to have hours of personal time, something that I just don’t get in my regular life.
Around midnight I was in the airport in Vegas. The woman beside me had the sniffles & was blowing her nose on restaurant napkins. I’ve been there done that & it’s not pleasant. Thank God I am healthy. I blessed her with a new package of tissues.
It’s Friday morning now & I’m back home. I'm really thankful for hours & hours of personal time in the airport. I didn't think that it was going to be a blessing to be in Smith terminal in Detroit for 12 hours because it is so small. But that was part of the blessing - it was quiet & not crowded. I'm also thankful that I am becoming so much calmer, that I am able to confess positively & flow through events. I’m happy that I am growing as a person, becoming less anxious & learning more compassion.
Blessings,
Diana
I know I told you back in January when I went to see the Spirit of the Marathon movie http://www.marathonmovie.com that I would never participate in a Marathon or a half marathon. But you also know that I am one to stretch my comfort zone & explore new things in order to grow as a person. Not sure how I got from those beliefs (I’ll never run a marathon) to my current plan other than the inspiration of the movie & some coaxing from Aimee.
Definitions for those of you that don’t know
Marathon is 26 miles 385 yards or 42.195 km
Half marathon is 13 miles 352 yards or 21.243 km
My dear girlfriend Aimee is currently in training to participate in her first half marathon on the first weekend in May. She is working with Team in Training an amazing organization that has been assisting people with Leukemia & Lymphoma for the last 20 years. http://www.teamintraining.org/
Aimee has asked me to participate in a full marathon with her next year possibly the one in Alaska. In preparation for this I have agreed to walk/run at least one half marathon this year.
As part of my training I have the joined the Wharf to Wharf training group with Central Coast Running. My goal is to run the Wharf to Wharf a 10k race a (mere 6.2 miles) in less than 1 hour. http://www.wharftowharf.com/
I wanted to have some great shoes before I started training. I’ve never worn real running shoes before only cheapy shoes from Big 5 or Payless. So I went to see Adam the owner of Central Coast Running. He fit me in the most amazing pair of shoes. I had no idea shoes could be this comfy. I may never wear dress shoes or sandals again, who needs style when you are this comfortable.

I haven’t picked a half marathon yet but there are lots around here to choose from:
See Jane Run http://www.seejanerun.com/
San Francisco http://www.runsfm.com/home.html
Big Sur http://www.bigsurhalfmarathon.org/Home_194.htm
Maybe I’ll do a couple before the summer is out.

Diana

Good Day:
I really love the inspirational section at Netflix unfortunately I'm running out of options as I've seen almost everything they have to offer. This week I've been watching 'The Joy of Stress' by Loretta LaRoche. Great stuff. She is a humourist & stress-management specialist. In this video she shares how to deal with stressful situations with humour, wisdom & patience. I'll be sharing this video with the Thinking Positive Club this weekend.
Check out her website at http://www.lorettalaroche.com/ She really believes that laughter is the best medicine.
